Early to bed and early to rise
Early to bed and early to rise
‘Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.’ Benjamin Franklin
I’m a Health Coach but I haven’t always been healthy!
I remember a summer day seven years ago when I woke up one morning and felt beyond words awful. I can’t describe exactly how I felt but I was in my late thirties and as soon as I woke up I knew I was having a flare but not like one I had ever had before. I was so tired it took all my energy to get out of bed. I went and showered hoping that would help but it didn’t. To get dressed seemed to take an age and in the end, I slowly walked to where we kept my grandma’s walking stick. We had kept it since she passed and I had never been so relieved to see it. I hobbled out into the garden where my family was and burst into tears. Often when you have a flare with an autoimmune condition people say they feel fatigued beyond words. That day I did, but my whole body also ached and my joints hurt. As it turned out it was some medication that a doctor had given me that had brought on the flare. When I was at my worst there was not enough sleep in the world that would have made me healthy! (let alone wealthy and wise).
I still believe this quote is true though. Today my condition is under control and I feel better. I go to bed early so that I get enough rest and I get up when I wake up. I don’t feel so tired that I need to spend time in bed trying to catch up with sleep. I feel healthy and I now work with clients who have similar issues that I had and work with them to meet their health and wellness goals.
