Half Plate Rule: How Many Fruits and Vegetables Do You Eat?

How Many Fruits and Vegetables Do You Eat?

We all know that incorporating a variety of fruits and vegetables into our daily diet is crucial for maintaining good health, yet, astonishingly, many of us fall short of the ideal goal of 5 to 10 servings each day. In the UK, just like in the US, many individuals struggle to meet this recommendation, with estimates indicating that around 75% of the population is missing out on the essential nutrients that a colourful plate can offer.

The ½ Plate Rule: A Simplified Approach

One effective strategy to boost your intake of fruits and vegetables is the ½ Plate Rule. This simple yet powerful tip encourages you to fill half of your plate with nature's bounty at every meal. By doing so, you'll not only likely meet the recommended servings but also add a multitude of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants into your daily nutrition regimen. Take a moment to reflect: how many cups of fruits and veggies do you currently consume each day?

Creative Methods to Increase Fruit and Vegetable Intake

To help clients up their game in the fruit and vegetable department, I employ a variety of engaging methods:

  1. The Rainbow Planner: This fun tool encourages you to incorporate a spectrum of colours in your meals, ensuring a diverse range of nutrients. Each colour represents different health benefits, making it a playful way to enhance your diet!

  2. Food Diaries: Keeping a food diary can be an enlightening experience. By tracking your daily consumption, you can identify patterns, set goals, and celebrate your progress towards increasing your produce intake.

  3. Colouring Sheets for Children: Encouraging children to engage with their food in creative ways makes healthy eating fun! Colouring sheets themed around fruits and vegetables can pique their interest and increase their willingness to try new foods.

  4. Delicious Recipes: Creating and sharing enticing recipes packed with fruits and vegetables can inspire everyone in your household to expand their palate. Think vibrant salads, smoothie bowls, or veggie-packed stir-fries.

  5. Mindful Eating: Practicing mindfulness while eating can enhance your appreciation for the diverse flavours and textures of fruits and vegetables. Taking the time to relish each bite can lead to a more fulfilling and healthful eating experience.

If you’re curious to learn more about these methods and how they can be tailored for you or your family, don’t hesitate to get in touch. Embrace the challenge of upping your fruit and vegetable consumption and explore the joyous world of colourful, healthful eating.

Until next time, keep your plates vibrant!

Health and Auto-immune Diseases

I have auto-immune diseases and expected to be on medicine for the rest of my life, but I didn't want to live like that. My rheumatology Doctor was so supportive of the change I wanted to make, and with their help, I now manage my auto-immune diseases by being strict with my diet.

It can be quite frightening when you first find out you have to change the way you eat but for some of us' Food is our medicine.'

I have several websites, write blogs, and I'm currently in the process of writing a book.

I trained to be Holistic Health Coach, Meditation and Mindfulness Teacher and Certified Gluten Free Practitioner in order to heal myself, my family and others who find themselves on the same journey as myself.

Photography

Our love for photography started on our travels. We wanted to capture images of the areas we travelled to both for our own records and for our family back at home. Some of these images were reproduced as watercolours. Our favourite images we display at home and friends often asked where we had purchased the pictures! Now you can purchase them online directly from us.
