The Secret of getting ahead is getting started
We all have times where we just can’t get started. Some times it’s hours, days, or perhaps weeks or months. Sometimes we promise ourselves we will start the diet next week! Make the phone call tomorrow evening. Write the email in the morning.
What stops me from getting started can be a variety of reasons. Tiredness, laziness, thinking I have plenty of time.
Sometimes the only thing to do is to start. A large project can seem daunting, so I break my projects down into a list of things that make up that project. For example, a new group class on meditation or sugar detox may take many hours to write up and formulate but if you break it down into sizeable chunks and things to do it’s not so daunting. I come up with a list of things I need to think about and then complete each one. For example; How many classes will there be? What will be the discussion at each class? What are the notes for each class? What presentation material do I need? What are the giveaways or handouts? When will I launch it? What date and times will they run?
I approach most things this way. When I’m really stuck and inspiration has left me then I start something else. I look at what I need. Perhaps a break from the work and more self-care, socialising with friends.
Time is a strange thing. It seems to stretch out vast in front of us, but time catches up on us. Before you know it a year has passed, 5 years, 10 years. Time continues to disappear and we never get that time back, so the secret of getting ahead is getting started.
