I can’t be bothered
I can’t be bothered or Let’s do it!
It can be hard to get motivated at times. Have you ever spent a day relaxing and doing nothing and then felt guilty at the end of it for all the tasks that you left undone? Tasks which the night before you had promised to achieve. Simple tasks perhaps, like wash up, iron clothes, go food shopping. If I ever feel the mood of ‘I can’t be bothered’ coming over me then I say to myself ‘let’s do it!’ I start by choosing a task. I set a timer on my phone for 15 minutes, and after 15 minutes, I can stop that task and relax for the same amount of time. Often the timer goes off, and I’ve enjoyed the feeling of accomplishment so much that I carry on and the tasks that seemed daunting to begin with are soon achieved leaving the rest of the day free for me to enjoy (without guilt). I now do the same with the children. I set timers going and see who can tidy their rooms first. Sometimes a little motivation is required along route: extra pocket money, choice of dinner that day. Often the reason of being the winner and their siblings the looser is enough motivation in itself! Tasks can soon mount up and seem daunting, but if you break the main task up into smaller ones and celebrate the achievement of finishing each one, then the task will soon be finished, and then you are free to enjoy the rest of the day guilt-free.
