a little progress each day adds up to big results.

How do you get a result when the finishing line seems so far off? How do you get to the prize that you are aiming for? The idea of reaching the goal can be daunting. It is so far away and the challenge of achieving it can stop you from even starting.

Have you ever had a job to do around the house which you kept putting off? I have, and I have learnt a trick to just start. I break the job down into smaller tasks and set an alarm clock for 15 minutes and I tell myself I will aim towards finishing that task in 15 minutes. Often I’m enjoying myself and the accomplishment of getting it done so I will continue. Often the starting is the biggest block to overcome.

For my autoimmune diseases, the issue was the same. Many people say to give up certain foods to feel better. Giving up caffeine, sugar, gluten, dairy can be frightening. How do you do this? My answer as a Health Coach is to make a little progress each day. A little change each day, maybe gradual but it can bring big results and then the change doesn’t seem so big or frightening.

When I’m too busy to fit exercise into my daily routine then I get the kids outside, I kick a football about with them and I soon boost my daily steps!

Our progress towards wellness doesn’t have to be overnight. We shouldn’t beat ourselves up if the progress is slower than others, progress is still progress and if you keep making a little progress each day then it adds up to big results.

I like to run Health Coach Programs over 6 months. Many clients often want to complete them in a shorter time, but I like 6 months. I think a little progress over a longer period is more likely to stick and the clients’ health to improve long term. I find they keep to the changes and love the changes that are made.

Next time you are worried you haven’t got enough exercise or had enough healthy food that day, then write down in your diary what you did do for your health. Be kind to yourself. Reach out for help. Love the progress you are making.

Emma Alexander-Cook

My name's Emma. I've been living gluten-free for over 25 years, and I've been dairy-free for over five years.

Health and Auto-immune Diseases

I have auto-immune diseases and expected to be on medicine for the rest of my life, but I didn't want to live like that. My rheumatology Doctor was so supportive of the change I wanted to make, and with their help, I now manage my auto-immune diseases by being strict with my diet.

It can be quite frightening when you first find out you have to change the way you eat but for some of us' Food is our medicine.'

I have several websites, write blogs, and I'm currently in the process of writing a book.

I trained to be Holistic Health Coach, Meditation and Mindfulness Teacher and Certified Gluten Free Practitioner in order to heal myself, my family and others who find themselves on the same journey as myself.

Photography

Our love for photography started on our travels. We wanted to capture images of the areas we travelled to both for our own records and for our family back at home. Some of these images were reproduced as watercolours. Our favourite images we display at home and friends often asked where we had purchased the pictures! Now you can purchase them online directly from us.

Coaching and Consultancy

Previously an IT Manager my skill set has come in very handy as I am both a Health Coach and also offer consultancy for small business starts up and fellow Health Coaches. This has included building websites and online profiles.

Our Family

Family is everything to me! We have a family of four boys where the age difference between the youngest and the eldest is 18 years. Two of our sons are also Gluten Free and Dairy Free.
